The game is the third in the Marvel Super Hero Squad franchise, acting as the sequel to two video games Marvel Super Hero Squad and Marvel Super Hero Squad: The Infinity Gauntlet. Based on characters from Marvel comic books such as Thor and Iron Man, Marvel Super Hero Squad: Comic Combat revolves around Doctor Doom and his minions planning to find a way into the real world to steal the uDraw GameTablet and use it to take over the comic book universe.
